In this blog post I compiled a couple of interesting articles related to Valentine’s Day, and also recorded a short video with some common questions and answers used in conversations about love and relationships. The first article was very funny, arguing that Valentine’s Day is a “tool of the devil.” In other words, it’s a day that’s too commercial and creates more negative feelings than positive ones. Even though the article is written tongue in cheek (in a jokey, insincere way), I personally agree with a lot of it. The writer makes a good point that couples should enjoy doing things together regardless of the day, not just on one day because of social pressure. Do you agree or am I being too sceptical?

There is also a funny/embarrassing story about a couple who went on a date after meeting on a dating app, and a video that tells some bad (but generally humorous) stories about Valentines Day. It’ll be good for your vocabulary connected to this topic and hearing things like past tense verbs used to tell a story. The song is also called ‘Valentine’, by a band from England that I like.

I can see a hurricane tonight
It keeps me from my valentine
This voodoo’s doing me harm
Woo (woo), woo (woo), racing along

But maybe this is the moment to pray, dear
But I’d rather lay by your side
‘Cause millions are fighting their way here

Tell me…when did the water surround me?
And tell me…is that love in your eyes?

New Orleans will tremble tonight
With bleeding hearts and swaying lights
A very modern machine
Woo (woo), woo (woo), it’s coming for me

Yeah, maybe this is the moment to say, dear
That I thought I’d have you by now
But sentiment got in the way, dear

Tell me…when did the water surround me?
And tell me…is that love in your eyes?
And tell me…when did the water surround me?
And tell me…is that, is that love?

I can see a hurricane tonight
It keeps me from my valentine
A very modern machine
Woo (woo), woo (woo), it’s coming for me

And tell me…when did the water surround me?
And tell me…is that love in your eyes?
And tell me…our last night on Earth is for living
And tell me…is that, is that love?

Just tell me the truth, it makes me feel better
The love in your eyes, it makes me feel better
Just tell me the truth, it makes me feel better
The love in your eyes, it makes me feel better
